Best Shows To See On Valentine's Day Weekend 2013 In Minnesota

Minnesota has numerous shows and options available so you don't end up with a table for two at the Olive Garden this Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day weekend runs from Thursday, February 14 to Sunday, February 17 this year and leaves a lot of time in between to make plans for a romantic night out. Venues around the state offer options ranging from musical acts to classical performances for an entertaining evening. Add the flowers and candy and you have a perfect evening.

Largely considered the greatest masterpiece by playwright Eugene O'Neill, "Long Day's Journey Into Night" will be performed in downtown Minneapolis on Valentine's Day weekend. This Tony Award-winning drama covers one long day in the life of a Connecticut family during the early 1900s. The Guthrie's Wurtele Thrust Stage, where the play will be performed, combines an intimate theater experience with a large-scale production. Evening performances run daily with some afternoon shows on Saturday and Sunday.

A Good Day to Die Hard

If a violent action thriller is your idea of romance, "A Good Day to Die Hard" opens in theaters on Valentine's Day 2013. John McClane is back in the fifth installment of the "Die Hard" film series. This adventure takes place in Russia, where McClane and his son try and save the world from nuclear weapons. Maybe not the most romantic show on the agenda for Valentine's Day, but it probably has a happy ending. Check local theaters for showtimes.

Enhance your weekend with an operatic performance by the Metropolitan Opera. This classical Italian opera is based on a play by Victor Hugo and has been performed internationally before a wide variety of audiences. Rigoletto is a court jester who becomes the victim of a curse. Although this tale is tragic, the music is fantastic and beautiful. The production has been updated to transform the classical Italian opera to the world of Las Vegas, Nevada in the 1960s.

This fantastic production is actually nine short plays in one. Each story revolves around the fictional town of Almost, Maine. Themes of love and loss in a remote and small community are explored and exposed in this entertaining production. This entertaining play comes complete with romance and humor for a Valentine's Day treat.

If drama and classic theater are not up your alley, a comedic performance is available for a night out on Valentine's weekend. Scott Hansen's Comedy Gallery is featuring "Love: One Size Fits Most," a stand-up performance that has been reviewed as hysterical. Scott boasts that many couples have gotten engaged at his performances. The show is performed at Moe's Supper Club and dinner can be added onto the performance to enhance the experience.
