One of William Shakespeare's most famous and important tragedies, "Othello," will be performed this spring at the Guthrie. With the underlying themes of love, passion, racism, jealousy and murder, "Othello" has come to be known as a timeless classic. Students of theater and general lovers of the performing arts will enjoy the Guthrie's depiction of Iago, one of the most vile villains in English literature, and the strong military hero of Othello.

Based on the popular book by Philip Pullman, "The Scarecrow And His Servant" has been adapted into a play to be performed at the Children's Theater this spring. Follow the adventures of a curious scarecrow that has been transformed to life by a magic bolt of lightning. When the scarecrow befriends an orphan boy to become his servant, he begins a journey that includes important life lessons. As always, the Children's Theater is set to amaze audiences with this fantastic tale.

One of the great American folk operas, "Porgy and Bess" will be performed in St. Paul this spring. This Tony award-winning musical is the product of the Gershwin brothers' talented musical score and has been one of the most popular Broadway productions during its run. Following southern African-American life in the 1920s, "Porgy and Bess" has historical and racial significance to the theater as it was clearly ahead of its time. Enjoy the popular music, including the most famous hit of the production, "Summertime."
