If you like the fur look, but prefer the animal friendly faux fur, now is the time to stock up while the options are plentiful. A dash of fur can be paired with a casual look like Elle MacPherson does here or it can be used to elevate the richness for a dressy look. Here are a few fur options that can work for regular, petite and plus-sized women.

The Casual Look
Dollhouse Plus Size Jacket, Faux Leather Belted – $74

Fur and leather complement each other well as rich textures that are soft to the touch. This faux leather jacket that I found at the Macy’s in St Paul dresses up a casual look for a chilly night out. With the belt positioned at the slimmest part of the waist, it will flatter plus sizes.

The Classic Look
Harper check faux-fur collar coat – $319

Splurge on a statement coat with a faux fur collar that will take you from day to night to weekend in style. With a slightly A-line bottom half, this kind of coat will flatter almost anyone. The unexpected Harper check gives this classic coat style a fresh twist. Available in regular, petite and women’s sizes at Talbots this coat can be a staple in your closet for years to come.

Hours: Sun 12pm – 5pm; Mon-Fri 9:30am – 7pm; Sat 9:30am – 6pm

The Trendy Look
BCBGeneration Coat, Scoop Neck Long Sleeve Open Front Faux Fur – $248

Another great find at Macy’s, go full throttle with the fur trend with this open front coat from BCBGeneration. This could be a luxurious layer of warmth for the next holiday party cocktail dress or you could create your own Carrie Bradshaw moment by pairing it with sleepwear and sparkly boots. Trendy looks often happen to be a bit more pricey, if you aren’t ready to commit yet search the rack at Marshall’s for a good deal.

A few tips about shopping for faux fur:

• Make sure you are not allergic to the synthetic fibers used to create the fur look.
• All-over fur can quickly and ruthlessly add volume. Opt for a touch of fur if you do not want to risk this result.
• Move around in the piece you are looking to buy to make sure the fibers do not shed all over your outfit. And if you still have to have it, put a lint roller in your pocket.
