Corps Revises Flood Diversion Plan
FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- The Army Corps of Engineers is revising a Red River flood diversion plan to store more water upstream of the north-flowing river.
Engineers say further study of the original design showed that river levels downstream would be much higher than first anticipated. The new plan would lessen those impacts.
The original cost of the proposed diversion was estimated at $1.4 billion. Corps officials say they will have updated numbers for the plan by Jan. 10.
The Fargo and Moorhead, Minn., area has gone through massive sandbagging efforts to hold back major flooding the last two years.
