Early Numbers Good, But Will People Continue Shopping?

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (WCCO) -- The early numbers show it was a pretty good weekend for holiday shopping but will people continue to shop until Christmas?

A research firm says there was .3 percent increase in sales nationwide on Black Friday and there were 2 percent more customers in the stores than last year.

Online, spending rose more than 14 percent from Thanksgiving Day through Saturday. At the Mall of America, they think they broke a record.

"Last year, on Black Friday, we had a record number, we've never seen that many before, we had 187,000 people come through the doors at Mall of America. This year we saw it getting busier, earlier and more people than we'd ever imagine to see. We're estimating right now at about 190,000 people," said Mall of America spokeswoman Bridget Jewell.

Next up is Cyber Monday where there will be lots of online discounts and free shipping offers. Amazon.com is selling the "Medal of Honor" Xbox 360 game for $34.99 instead of $59.99.

Walmart.com is promoting "Cyber Week" discounts from now through next Friday. But some of the items are already out of stock.
