Back With Wild, O'Sullivan Trains For Consistency

By Eric Nelson, WCCO-TV

ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- Saturday night, the Minnesota Wild have brought back center Patrick O'Sullivan in the hopes he'll give them a little boost at the Calgary Flames.

O'Sullivan's NHL career has come full circle. He was drafted by the Minnesota Wild in 2003, later dealt to Los Angeles and now is back in the Twin Cities.

"It's going pretty good. It's been a bit of an adjustment slowly getting used to how the team plays," said O'Sullivan

"He's fit in nicely. He's a skilled player. He's made some plays for us. That's what we need, we're a team that needs that," said coach Todd Richards.

The Wild hopes O'Sullivan brings more scoring "punch" to Minnesota and that he can be one of their centers for many years to come.

"I think he's been great. I can see he's got a lot of skills and still he is getting used to us, used to the system," said forward Martin Havlat.

O'Sullivan is the first North Carolina-born player to play in the NHL, and he is excited to be in the frozen north.

"It's a good organization, obviously. A lot of fan support. It's a fun building to play in, so I was happy to find out I was coming here," said O'Sullivan.

So far O'Sullivan has shown some flashes of brilliance for the Wild. What he needs to work on now is becoming more consistent on the ice. O'Sullivan knows this and is trying to elevate his game to the next level.

"For me, a lot of it's consistency. I'd like to score a little bit more than I have. I have had a lot of chances and they just haven't gone in," he said.

"He's gotten better. Hopefully we can get his game on a consistent high level. If we can do that he'll be a great fit for this team," said Richards.
