Far-Flung Fans Ready For Snowy Outdoor Game

By Rachel Slavik, WCCO-TV

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Vikings fans are starting early to find seats for Monday’s game at TCF Bank Stadium. The gates don’t open until 5 p.m., but several fans lingered around the stadium Monday morning to check out the seating.

Fans like Tiffany Meek want to make the most of her trip from Texas, so she and her family will try for the 50-yard line.

“We’ve come in to watch the game, hopefully to get a seat and experience something we’ve never experienced,” said Meek.

The weather will be a first for Meek. While it’s 80 degrees in Texas, the temperature will hover around 20 degrees Monday night, with several inches of snow in the forecast.

“You should see all the body warmers we bought. We’ll have them in our pockets down our pants. It’ll be fun,” said Meet.

For those who don’t want to brave the cold, many restaurants and bars are setting up tents to take advantage of the no alcohol rule on the University of Minnesota campus.

“It’s going to be a party, game day atmosphere that we usually do at Buffalo Wild Wings,” said Brad Pederson of Buffalo Wild Wings. “But (we’ll) incorporate some of that tailgating you can’t do in the parking lots.”

Williams Arena will be open Monday afternoon, for anyone who wants to warm up before the gates open.

      I’m with you Rafe!!!!!

    2. Katrina Johnson says:

I think that perhaps MD has some childhood issues involving skills with dodgeball.

  1. Julie says:

Maybe we should get rid of the Metrodome and professional sports and turn it into a casino. Would probably make more money anyway.

  2. red says:

I hope they don’t approve some dang new stadium, I don’t want to pay for and I am sure that most of MN taxes payers do not either

    1. Tom says:

Do you sit on you’re brains or what???

    2. dunnski57 says:

Yeah, because creating jobs is a dumb thing. I’m waiting for just on anti-stadium person to step up and say that they would be glad to make up for the difference in revenue and tax loss when the Vikes move to LA. Anyone? Anyone?

  3. Pro Athletes Rule says:

what would we use that money for then? build more homeless shelters and give more money to single moms with 8 kids from 8 different baby daddies so they can live in better apartments than most people with honest jobs?
It’s good entertainment driving by that Dorothy Day Center.. There’s lots of yellow snow around there now and it isn’t from dogs lifting their legs!

    1. Logan says:

what money? MN is facing an enormous deficit. there is no money.

    2. Tom says:

You are whats wrong in this Nation….move out…loser

  4. Jay says:

Half of the people who are against the new stadium barely pay any taxes to begin with! To all you people who want to tell people who actually do pay a substantial tax bill every year how to spend the money is a joke. I’m sick of paying for everyone’s lifestyle and would like some of my tax money to go towards a new stadium. I agree with Pro Athletes Rule, I love driving down Lake Street- especially in the summer and watching everyone stand around with nothing to do. Lets hurry and make sure that those people are taken care of!

    1. Katrina says:

Tell you what, you want a new stadium, write a check. I write a check to the St Paul Chamber Orchestra every year. It’s time that pro sports play by the same rules as everyone else. The Ordway was built with private funds as was Orchestra Hall. There was some bonding help from the state, something that could certainly work for the Vikings. Just keep it under $25 million or so.

      1. Jay says:

Tell you what, if you think the Ordway and Orchestra Hall was built with little state money I’ve got some ocean front land to sell you in Hawaii. If you were to prorate the amount of money spent on projects like Orchestra Hall, Ordway, Guthrie to a per person cost of people who actually enjoy those venues to a New Vikings stadium you would be able to build 5 Vikings stadiums. And by the way, I have written my check, I do every quarter of the calendar year.

  5. Raoul Duke says:

I want to see the Vikes go to LA .. MN DOES’NT NEED A NFL TEAM

    1. brandon says:

guess we cant expect someone with a name like Rauoul to like a mans game anyways. Your prob into musical theater or something, so you can take your opinion and shove it

  6. JC says:

Christmas sure brings out the best in all of us, doesn’t it?

  7. Logan says:

the time for a new stadium has long since passed…….it should have been built before the mortgage crisis and collapse of the housing market. too late now. that window has closed. the reality is that the dome will be repaired and MN will have to live with it, for many years to come.

  8. Tom says:

Dodgeball…Timmy is the one that was against a new Vike’s stadium…Dayton will get it done….btw P.O.

  9. Diddy says:

I love it MD!!! One of the most to the point comments ever!

  10. Skeeezer says:

I wonder when the rest of the roof will fall in

  11. Common Sense says:

Whether you like it or not, this state needs a new stadium and all of the revenue it will bring in. If the state loses that revenue from the money businesses make from weekend home games, they will turn around and increase taxes in other ways to make up for that loss. It’s called smart business 101 on the states behalf.
You think we are in a deficit now, wait until we have to scramble to make up for the funds we lose from these hotels, bars, and multi million dollar salaries. Either way, your taxes are going up.

BTW – When was the last time the Mpls Institute of Arts brought in thousands of people to Mpls on a Sunday and funneled thousands (probably millions actually) into our states economy yet we keep funding that place. I know when I was in school, I so looked forward to that field trip to a the Museum over the Twins game we always took…. NOT!!!!

  12. brandon says:

You liberals need to stop crying and get a life. Enough said

  13. lay off the pipe says:

this is actually the best time in history to buyild a stadium, low interest rates, cheap land, hungrey contractors…..

second, why do people from Iowa, the Dakotas, Nebraska, etc come to the Twin Cities……it aint for the orchestra of the blue bomb (Guthrie)

lay off the pipe and get real

    1. Logan says:

…..MN needs to finish working on the old bridges and inspection program, so they don’t fall down like, well, you know……………. – remember? the one that fell down? real humans died. no money for a stadium – not for many years………….priorities.

  14. Jane DeGrote says:

Raoul, go back to where you came from. I agree with Brandon take your opinion and shove it.

  15. Best Solution Possible says:

Build all the private funded stadiums you need.

  16. erik says:

a-men. you want a stadium. find some billionaire owners, players, etc. to pay for it. NOT the taxpayers.
