Pit Bulls Could Be Put Down For Second Attack

By Caroline Lowe, WCCO-TV

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Two Minneapolis pit bull sisters are locked up after a man was bit in their home on Monday. The owner was doing errands when police say the dogs bit a man who had been staying at the residence for the past three months.

Belle and Coco were declared potentially dangerous after another biting incident back in March involving their mother and a neighbor. Animal control officials are expected to decide by Wednesday if they will be put down or be declared dangerous.

The pit bulls' mother was put down after the first incident and their owner, Kim Kittelson, agreed to pay more than $1500 in fines and abide by several restrictions for her pets. Those restrictions include using muzzles and leashes on the dogs and keeping them in secured areas of their home on 34th Avenue South.

"They've been going to animal behavioral classes. I am actually taking a behavioral class online," said Kittelson. "I feel bad that it happened but I did take measures needed to protect people that are in my home and I'm not sure how they got out."

"I'm not afraid of them. I've known them since they were tiny, little things you could hold in your hands," said Kittelson's son Koffi. "They're like part of the family; they are part of the family."

The man who was bit on Monday spent the night in the ER and is now on painkillers. He said the attack was totally unprovoked.
