ARLINGTON (WCCO) — A fifth-grade student in Arlington was a victim of attempted child abduction Tuesday afternoon, according to the Arlington Police Department.

Police say the Sibley East student was walking home along the 100 block of East Adams when a light blue, four-door Saturn stopped nearby. A man inside ordered him inside his car, but the boy refused and ran toward a house as the Saturn drove off.

The driver is described as a white male, mid- to late-20s, dark medium length hair and was wearing a dark mask over his face. A second witness description, which may possibly be the same man, said that the man had a dark-colored mustache, beard and was wearing dark glasses.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Arlington Police Department at 507-964-5200 or the Sibley County Sheriff’s Department at 888-880-4567.

The news was a bit alarming, especially to the part of parents who enables their kids to walk home alone after every class. I hope this incident would set as the best example to all parents, so they would realize that allowing their kids to walk home alone is not appropriate. In fact, as part of securing my kids safety and protection, I registered them to “SafeKidZone”. It is mobile security application that enables my son to summon help from family and friends and with direct access to the nearest 911 when a similar situation arises.
