Alexi Casilla Signs New Contract With Twins

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Twins will be bringing back another player, signing infielder Alexi Casilla to a 2011 contract.

The Twins avoided arbitration for the 26-year-old switch-hitter. According to the team, the one year contract is for $865,000.

Casilla is one of six Minnesota players eligible for salary arbitration with the remaining being Matt Capps, Francisco Liriano, Glen Perkins, Kevin Slowey and Delmon Young.

Last season Casilla batted .276 in his fifth year with the Twins.

On Friday, the Twins agreed to a one-year contact with slugger Jim Thome. The designated hitter's deal is worth $3 million and includes performance bonuses based on plate appearances.
