ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A panel 23 of community leaders is shifting through a list of 108 nominees for the 2011 Minnesota Teacher of the Year, working toward naming a group of semifinalists.

The state teachers union, Education Minnesota, says 108 teachers have accepted their nominations and completed the required application to become eligible for the annual award.

The names of the nominees are available on the union’s web site,

The 2011 Teacher of the Year will be announced May 1.

    Minnesota is ranked 37th in the Nation for Education. So are we going to import the “Teacher of the year” from a state ranked…oh I dont know….say…3rd? This reminds me of a group of prisoners voting for “Citizen of the year” from their prison….what a joke…Go teachers union….
