Rep. Bachmann’s Tea Party Response To SOTU

By Pat Kessler, WCCO-TV

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — In an unusual move, tea party favorite Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., followed House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s response with high profile speech of her own.

It was originally aimed just at tea party activists but was also carried live by CNN.

“After the $700 billion bailout, the trillion-dollar stimulus and the massive budget bill with over 9,000 earmarks, many of you implored Washington to please stop spending money we don’t have,” Bachmann said. “But, instead of cutting, we saw an unprecedented explosion of government spending and debt. It was unlike anything we have seen before.”

Same old Tea Party bromides and repetitive rebuttal diatribes. Yes, the country is having fiscal budget issues and verbal battles over economic philosophies, but, the comparison to Iwo Jima &/or WW2 is completely out of order and context. Mercifully the usual political commentators and ersatz pundits by-passed that illustration and narrative. Typical Bachmann rabble-rousing.

    1. LFB says:

Anybody think they can do a better job? step up and run aginst her.
I will be voting for her again

  2. Leight says:

Why does this broad lie so muck? All I hear coming out of her mouth is lies!
Can’t she get it together? I have yet to meet someone who says they have voted for her? Where does she get the votes? I think and feel that someone should check these votes to make sure they are not FRAUD!

    1. Colamalu says:

Do you even live in her district? People that voted for her are WORKING PEOPLE who PAY TAXES so YOU can sit on YOUR BUTT and MAKE ASSumptions.

      1. lefty says:

wrong people who live in her district are only looking out for the tax exceptions they can get farmers no gas tax crop failure tax lower property tax and businesses that want every tax break (by the way her district has the largest Somali population in the state)

      2. george says:

Relaxt, ake a deep breath……..ASS and Butt are excellent verbs describing MS.Bachmann.

    2. Tim says:

Leight, u are an idiot and need your head examined, MB has more sound statements, ideas, passion and future insight than most of the congressional mbrs.

    3. Tim says:

Leight, I appologize, I should not have made a personal attack… I should have said that was an idiotic remark, I didn’t mean to put u down, just your idea, sorry!

  3. David J. Conklin says:

    >Why does this broad lie so muck?
Because her constituents bought the last load. They haven’t read the last two chapters in the Bible to find out what is going to happen to those who tell lies AND those who love to hear them.

  4. Karen Bland says:

Michelle is using a misleading graph that even the conservative CATO Institute criticized for being misleading. The first blue bar, representing 2009, represents the ending Bush budget.

    1. Catie says:

Wait, you… You cited reasonable sources? Instead of relying on generalizations and emotional attacks?

      I’M SO CONFUSED!!!

  5. Kwai Chang Caine says:

Who voted for this Nut job???

  6. Skeezer says:

I live in the 6th congressional district, and voted for one reason – to vote for her opponent. I tried.

  7. John says:

Sound bite Bachmann, like Sarah Palin likes to throw useless infomation back into the mix. She’s only in politics for the power, not the public service and making our world a safer more nicer place to be in, No War Mongering and tax cuts for the rich. That is what makes her world round. She will bring on World War Three if given the chance.

  8. Maureen says:

See what we put up with in Minnesota? Bachmann is an inaccurate liar, but the tea party is stupid enough to believe her.

  9. Maureen says:

Also, her habit of telling half truths and her inaccuracies make her dangerous.

  10. Victim Du Jour says:

Tea Party seems laid back compared to the Radicals outside the RNC.

  11. Parapalegal says:

You are not revolutionaries, risking your lives in a fight against tyranny.
You are not rugged settlers, risking everything on setting up a new life in a hostile wilderness.
You are much more likely to be a retired office supply vendor receiving Medicare and Social Security benefits, or you are unemployed (virtually unemployable) trailer trash eking out a life on government assistance. Either way, you have been bamboozled into voting against your own economic interests by deceptive math, uber patriotism, or because your imaginary sky friend told you to do so.

    1. Colamlu says:

I didn’t know that Medicare and Social Security were options that we didn’t have to pay into…news to me!

As far as the trailer trash comment, I thought LIberals were the ones who NEVER spewed hate. Liberals are always accusing others of things they are guilty of.

      1. Parapalegal says:

I was noting the irony of people collecting Social Security and enjoying Medicare who want the government to keep their hands off of it. There is actually video of a teabagger demanding that the government keep its hands off her Medicare.

Trailer resident? Mobile home denizen? Economically, educationally, philosophically, geographically challenged wheeled domicile inhabitant? People truly need to distinguish between a healthy contempt and “hate.” I also didn’t call for such persons to be “targeted” nor did I call for “2nd Amendment remedies” to be applied to them.

    2. mark from says:

Do you even think before you write, or is your crack pipe speaking for you?

      1. Parapalegal says:

Of course. Most teabaggers I’ve met, seen on television, or heard on the radio are walking, talking examples of irony.

  12. Mr T says:

I’m glad someone Like Michelle is speaking up. Most Americans have been sitting on their couches watching American idol and football while this country is being robbed blind and enslaved by debt. I’m no fan of all the Tea Party crowd, but atleast some are putting up a little resistence about being rounded up like cattle.

Obama,Bush,Clinton, they are all the same. More debt and more wars. The corruption is so widespread that it will take generations to correct. The government has been hijacked by socialists. Their goal is to keep us poor and enrich themselves. Congresswoman Bachman speaking out is a good thing.

    1. NOT Bachman says:

Mr. T, you are the poster child representing all of those who follow Bachman and Palin because of all of the inaccurate information distributed through e-mails. Do yourself a favor, hit the DELETE button. The very least you can do is fact check. There are many reliable resources. Paralegal has good advice for you, take heed!

      1. Mr T says:

Inaccurate information? I’m actually fulley engaged with the political process. I’m a state delgate and completely understand the voting records by research(yes, real fact checking). Hearing slogans like “yes we can” may suffice for your level of education, but I require more substance. People like you fall for the 2 party paradigm game. Good luck with that simple-minded trick.

      2. insignificant says:

@NOT Bachman…looks like your being fed alot o’ dis-info.You can’t get any knowledge watching main-stream media. I don’t care for Bachman any more than i do Obama,as i know that the real policy makers are in corporate and central bank RANKS…thats fact……Obamas speech ,nor Bachmasns rebuttle, have nothing to do with the real issues, effecting real people today, and this once wealthy nation is gonna go belly-up,and by design…There is no monies for anything anymore…Its gone! The printings at the Fed Reserve is de-valuating the currency and soon it will not be the world reserve currency ,and life,as we’ve been accustomed to here,is gonna change.

    2. mark from says:

@Mr T very well written comment. These Liberal clowns who have this entitlement mind have no clue how economics work.

      1. mark-Mr. T - da Victim lol says:

I’ve asked this before of you — and should be easy to answer as you are one and the same.
Who pays your salary? The RNC – Tea Party – or indirectly both? Above minimum wage I bet – they pay you OT too? lol
Like everything else you say it will be bs and nonsense but it’s fun to call it like it is now too. 😉

    3. says:

@MR.T well said, its great to see your voice and others like it speaking up.

    4. john doe says:

Mr T you must be getting lead poisoning from all the cheap jewelry you wear it affecting your slow little thought prosess

  13. Greg says:

All of your comments reinforce the perception that wcco is a liberal mouth peice , when 90% of the comments here are against bachman. You ask who voted for her , twice as many people as who voted for the liberal.. I guess she doesnt speak your truth to power so she must be crazy , i feel that i am not represented by the dfl but i dont need to call them crazy or stupid or anything else . So much for the myth of the lets all get along liberal crowd . You should get used to it though because it is going to get worse for you before it gets better .

    1. john doe says:

Another untruth wrong people who live in her district are only looking out for the tax exceptions they can get farmers no gas tax crop failure tax lower property tax and businesses that want every tax break (by the way her district has the largest Somali population in the state) this is who voted her in

  14. Kim R says:

This lady is a nut job!! She needs to shut her mouth and sit down. It scares me everytime time she opens her mouth!! She does not have a clue what the hell she is talking about or what she is doing for that matter!!!

    1. Cathy says:

I agree totally with you on that one. I DID NOT vote for this dingbat!!!

  15. dunnski57 says:

Every time she speaks, I think about an old saying, “It’s better to be silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and erase all doubt.”

    1. mark from says:

@dumski Every time you write I think of the old saying “Children should be seen and not heard”

  16. Kim R says:

dunnski57… I love it!!! those words were made just for her!!!

  17. MrB says:

My favorite saying…..Never argue with an idiot (Bachmann) because they’ll bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience!

  18. mark from says:

I love the Liberals and their comments, just comments no answers.
Lets start with cutting welfare to illegal immigrants, cutting healthcare to illegal immigrants, cut off welfare to single childless adults after one year, funding for bike paths fix our roads, I could go on.

    1. Pondering says:

Thank you Mark! I’m so sick and tired of liberals and their comments. I’m not in her district, but I wanted her to win. As I always say, you can’t spend money you don’t have. I think welfare should be regulated as well! Legislature passed and said that people on welfare should be able to spend their money the way they want it. So, instead of spending money on rent, they get a Visa card and can spend it on however they want! It’s nuts!! I think if you regulate welfare, our budget wouldn’t be as bad as it is now.

    2. Not A Tea Party Patriot says:

Mark, you’re an example of the fact that lies become reality. The myths you peddle are just that, MYTHS. Also, why would you want to deny the “least of these” help when they choose not to abort a child? Didn’t Jesus say to care for the poor?

  19. pondering needs some help here says:

got more igginuts here than in San Quentin so I want Pondering to join Bachmanns drive to Nowhereville. He Haw ….. ride’em dummy

  20. John R says:

Whenever Bachmann talks about pretty much anything, I can’t help but think about when, on April 27, 2009, Representative Bachmann set the historical record “straight,” noting during a speech before Congress (yes, she blurts these things out in public) that President Franklin Delano Roosevelt ushered in the Great Depression by using his presidential powers several years before he even became president to ram through legislation named after semi-famous country and western crooner, “Hoot Smalley.”

    1. John R says:

The Tea Party / GOP as typlified by Bachmann is, effectively, the party of willfully unlettered Utopians. It is the party of choice for those who believe global warming is a hoax, that humans roamed the earth with dinosaurs, and that homosexuals should work harder at not being gay. They are the proud and ignorant. If you believe that if we still had segregation we wouldn’t “have had all these problems,” the Tea Party is the movement for you. If you believe that your president is a Muslim sleeper agent, the Tea Party is the movement for you. If you flirt with the idea of secession, even now, then the Tea Party movement is for you. If you are a “Real American” with no demonstrable interest in “Real America” then, the Tea Party movement of alchemists and creationists, of anti-science and hair tonic, is for you.

      1. mark from says:

@John R Proud member of the TEA PARTY here, it’s just a shame you don’t know us at all. We are black, white, Latino, gay, straight, men, women, rich, poor. Catholics, Atheists. Muslims, Baptists, and more. To bad some one sold you on something else.

  21. BBennigan says:

They still looking for the dude who sold her that Purple Haze in ’78?
Sheeesh – one would think she’d have crashed by now – maybe it was total cell destruction huh?

  22. GetRealPeople says:

@Kim R Sounds like emotional spewing. Site examples. Do you have any idea that you have been indoctrinated from day one, school-college-media into thinking the way you do? It’s delivered in a yummy treat that tastes reasonable and appeals to any compassionate being….why are ppl suffering, we need to SOLVE this. Someone has to be to blame… and whoever it is…well they are just evil. Mob mentality. Even your TV shows incorporate their political statements into the story. It’s become so obvious. You get brought along through the story and underlying message, most of the time follows the liberal agenda. It’s sick. Look at Michael Moore, what a liar, staging his stories and making it look like he happened upon it while filming. Or the Gay/Lebsian movement, exaggerating the story if they’ve been victimized. Sometimes a victim is victimized not because he’s gay, but because he’s in the wrong place at the wrong time, or involved with some other activity that got him/her in trouble, NOT because he/she is gay. .Or how about Acorn…skewing votes, I mean really. If you have to make it up to further your point, then really…is that fair to Lemmings like you who need to be told how to feel?

    1. mark@mntaxwaste,com says:

      @GetRealPeople Very well written comment

      1. Kim says:

you need to take off that paper sack over head that you have been hiding behind!!!

  23. MrB says:

I think they should change the name from tea party to “Long Island Iced Tea” party because there is definitely something in the tea they are drinking!

  24. lefty says:

first off i want to say i am very sorry to everyone (the state of Minnesota all the rest of the country) that you have to listen to such a feeble minded person from Minnesota. I do not know how she got elected i just hope that next time someone will be able to rid the state and country of this disgrace. Again I am sorry that you all have to be bombarded by her rantings

  25. Marjorie says:

People who voted for her think she is soooo cute. They can;t believe she is smart???She misleads them on every front.
    Right on Maureen!!!
Mr. T is a snob. Just because you are “into” politics, doesn’t make you inteilligent.

  26. mark from says:

As I sit here and read all the comments I see people name calling the Tea Party, let me tell you who we are. We are black, white, Latino, gay, straight, men, women, rich, poor. Catholics, Atheists. Muslims, Baptists, and more. To bad some one sold you on something else.

    1. Not A Tea Party Patriot says:

Mark which of these minorities do you represent? I’m guessing NOT A ONE.

      1. says:

        White and Catholic

  27. Not A Tea Party Patriot says:

I want Michele to pay back her corporate welfare checks.

“From 1995 through 2006, the Bachmann family farm has received $251,973 in federal subsidies, chiefly for dairy and corn price supports.”

In all fairness to the hypocrite in question.

“Bachmann is not the only Republican to decry government benefits as socialism, but still accept federal subsidies for themselves. Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley’s family has collected nearly $1 million in federal handouts over an 11-year period, including $699,248 for his son and $238,974 for himself. “

  28. mark from says:

As I sat back and heard our Presidents speech last night I was really taken back by what he had to say. He came across as sincere, honest and forthright to me. Just about everything he said I agreed with, the anger, name calling, killings just made sense to me.
I took a good hard look at that this morning, as I was reading the comments on WCCO, Fox, Star and Tribune, CNN, and KSTP. I looked at what people were writing and what I have written in the past. I was not that person who I thought I was, I was also writing the name calling and we are better than you crap just as I saw from the others.
I went to my email and it was full of the same kind of hate and disgust for my fellow Americans. My first email was from the American Tea Party asking me to call Michelle Bachmann and tell her she does not speak for the Tea Party? I sent them an email back to take me off their list. My second was from the Minnesota GOP telling me how wrong and evil President Obama is. My third was from the Minnesota DFL telling me to support our President on all fronts, and not the Minnesota GOP. I also sent them emails to take me off their lists.
Yes we need to watch where our money goes, and cut back on the spending. I think all parties would agree to that, but this hatred for each other has to stop.
If there is one wonderful thing that I got out of the Presidents speech last night it was we need to come together. We need to some how come together and work this out, or we will fail as America, not Americans but America. Our great country will go down in the history books as not the Great Society, but as the Worst Society.
We as a country have come so far where only white men ruled to a place where anyone can become President. We came from working the ground with a horse to feeding the world. We came from having a wagon train on the Nebraska fields to putting a man on the moon. We came from hitting the beaches of France to helping the survivors of an earthquake in Haiti.
We have done so much when we come together, and yet we push each other away when it comes to helping this country grow as a nation.
I can’t set here and not wonder what our founding fathers would think of us at this point in our history. Do they look at us as little children crying for what’s in it for me? or do they look at us as failures for what we have become. Ether choice I am not proud to be part of, but I have been both.
When I was a child growing up in St Paul my father always told me people have something to say and it’s important to hear them, today I think I really heard him.
I don’t know where to start, but I do know this. I will listen more to what others have to say, and I don’t mean just glance over it but to take it to heart as what my fellow Americans mean.
