Violent Crime Down Across The Board In Mpls. In 2011

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — New statistics out Wednesday show most crimes in Minneapolis are down.

Comparing January 2011 to January 2010, violent crimes are down just more than 15 percent and property crimes are down 4 percent.

One staggering drop — the number of killings was down by 70 percent. However, 2010 started off with a triple murder inside the inside Seward Market and Hala Meat on Jan. 6, 2010.

Rapes are down by 17 percent and assaults are down by 33 percent.

The only crimes that are up are thefts from cars which is up by 41 percent. There is also just a very slight rise burglaries — less than 1 percent.

    The reason the crimes are down is because it is colder outside this year than last year. People are staying inside.
