Frank Vascellaro and his mother, Rosalie, whipped up some steak roll appetizers this week. Check out the recipe below:

1-Lb.Round Steak. Have your butcher slice it very thin, about 1/8 of an inch thick.
1/3 –Lb Genoa Salami, sliced very thin
Garlic Powder
Onion, finely chopped
Parmesan Cheese
Vegetable Oil
Bread Crumbs
Tooth Picks

Place a piece of round steak on cutting board. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

Place a layer of salami on top of the round steak. Now, add onion on top of salami.
Finally, sprinkle with parmesan cheese.

Roll the steak tightly into a roll. Cut into piece about 1 inch wide and long. Secure steak roll with tooth pick(s).

Dunk the steak roll into a bowl of oil. Drudge the roll through bread crumbs and coat thoroughly. Place the breaded steak rolls on a cookie sheet.

Place under a broiler for about 3-4 minutes, turn over, and cook on other side another 3-4 minutes.

I tried this recipe too…changed it up a little by adding to the listed ingredients: shredded Parmesan and the coating I used a mixture of equal amounts of Italian bread crumbs, corn flakes and potato chips. For the oil the rolls were to be dipped in prior to being rolled in the crumb mixture, I used Olive oil instead of the traditional Vegetable oil.

Additionally, I sauteed the raw onion in garlic butter before placing it on the steak to be rolled. Lastly, I made a dipping sauce of whipped cream and horseradish which consisted of 1 c. of heavy whipping cream, 1 pinch of white pepper, 1 dash of Tobasco and 3 tbs. prepared horseradish. I whipped the cream to form stiff peaks then folded in the other ingredients.

It took me about an hour to prepare the recipe which I doubled. The steak rolls were absolutely delicioso! Thank you Momma V!~
