ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) — A St. Cloud couple who have spent at least 70 Valentine’s Days together have been recognized by one group as the couple with the longest marriage in Minnesota.
A faith-based marriage group called Worldwide Marriage Encounter presented a certificate Saturday to Tony and Rose Ament. The couple will celebrate their 74th anniversary in April.
Tony turns 100 in July, and Rose is 97. Tony recalls the days of the Great Depression, when the couple had to postpone their marriage for three or four years because he was only making 40 cents per hour. Still, that didn’t stop them from going dancing almost every week.
Rose tells the St. Cloud Times that she and Tony liked each other at first sight.
Tony and Rose say it’s the little things that keep the sparks going. They have four children, 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
