MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — It will start out cool on Saturday with a good deal of sunshine. The clouds will increase throughout the day as we warm to 31. This is close to average this time of year.

The nice bonus is that the wind won’t be too bad.

Sunday is a whole different story.

A strong low will swing from Colorado, through Nebraska and across Iowa. The heaviest snow will fall during the day on Sunday across the southern half of Minnesota.

Some towns could see over 10 inches of snow by the time it tapers off to flurries on Monday morning.

The wind will also be in the 10-20 mph range making blowing and drifting snow a lock as well as poor visibility while the snow is falling. So, be careful on the roads.

The good news is that the storm is hitting on a weekend and there is no school on Monday.

Stay tuned for the latest on this storm.

Don’t assume there isn’t school. A lot of us are making up a snowday on Monday. I really wish you would remember your audience isn’t just the cities, it is all of Minnesota.

    1. Jack S. says:

Yep, most of the districts in my area in southern MN have lost 6+ days of school this year already due to snow; we are making one up on Monday.

      1. Paul Solinger says:

And, since this is Minnesota, it’s highly possible that a snow day make-up will also be closed due to snow.

  2. RK says:

Most of greater Minnesota is planning to have school on Monday! WCCO must know that from the long list of school closings all season? Sorry -not all viewers live in the Twin Cities!

  3. Rhonda says:

I am another viewer who wishes that you would either check your facts or not make general comments about there not being school on Monday. Many out-state schools are having school (or are planning to have school) on Monday to make up the necessary snow days. Please don’t make such general statements.

  4. Tony says:

Man, you out-staters sure are a sensitive bunch.

  5. Martha says:

Some schools have school on Monday not because they are making up snow days but because it was a regularly scheduled school day. Also some out of state schools haven’t had a snow day or late start or early out this year.

  6. mona gerike says:

It’s not just outstate – District 112 in the twin cities has school on Monday. I think you should check your facts before you make a statement like no school.

  7. Kim M. says:

Oh for heaven’s sake, everyone…at least YOUR teachers aren’t calling off sick to march at the Capitol like ours in Wisconsin have been! Let’s cut Chris some slack here…

  8. Leroy R says:

Maybe the headline should be “Saturday to be nicer than out-staters”

  9. Calm down says:

Just to reiterate the point (as not enough people have made the exact same comment) not every school is out on Monday. 🙂 Jeez people, go ahead and act like you have never made a generalized statement before.

  10. Meg says:

I wouldn’t state there is no school on Monday. I work for Chaska school district and there is school. Confusing to parents when you state on the news there is no school on Monday.

  11. Jim says:

If parents are relying on the weather folks for the school calendar…there is something wrong with them. Also, Monday is a holiday for some…I think the point was that rush hour roads won’t be too bad.

Are they suppose to check with EVERY school and business before a statement is made? Get over yourself people!

  12. charlie says:

do you get the feeling there’s a lot of pent-up frustrations these days? wow this is [just] weather in MN what a hoot ,people

  13. JustMe says:

I think the writer means most schools will be off due to it being a holiday

  14. RW says:

Yes, but at least you out staters have HAD the benefit of up to 6 snow days! Us city folk have had kids go to school in equally bad situations and didn’t complain so much. Go bake a hot dish and chill!

  15. Daniella says:

I am sure that they did not mean to upset anyone. Most schools are closed on Monday due to the holiday, and it is not up to WCCO to check everyones calender before they make a statement in passing. It is ultimately the responsibility of the parent to check with the school for any new closings. You cannot rely on the news unless it is a OFFICIAL school closing statement.

  16. Chill out says:

The bulk of viewers ARE from the cities, and a generalized statement should be considered fair because of that. Y’all need something better to complain about, seriously.
Leroy R- you hit the nail on the head!

  17. :( says:

Some of us haven’t been fortunate enough to get a snow day this year and work on Monday! Wish a big one would hit in the middle of the week! I cold use a day off!

  18. Stevo says:

These haters are outstate wannabes! A true outstater would walk up hill both ways on Monday just to find out if there is school or not, and they wouldn’t be looking for facts from a Twin Cities based weather station, since they think city folk should be annexed to Iowa.

  19. Norm says:

This story is about the snow, not the schools. Get over it!!
