Gov. Dayton Welcomes New Puppy To Residence

ST. PAUL (WCCO) — There is a new “First Dog” cuddling into his new home at the governor’s residence.

Gov. Mark Dayton introduced his new puppy, Wanamingo, to the media on Sunday afternoon. Dayton said he’ll call her Mingo for short.

The governor lost one of his two German Shepherds to cancer in January and decided to get another one.

However, his older dog Mesabi is not too thrilled about it.

“Mesabi is still adjusting to her. Mesabi is ready for her to leave,” said Dayton. “Mesabi found her an object of great curiosity and then was like, OK, that’s enough, you can leave now. And then she wouldn’t go.”

Dayton said he is certain the new puppy is a Democrat, sure to fit into the household.

Does he ever loose that stupid grin?

    1. Melissa says:

That would be “lose” not “loose”…just a suggestion, before you throw and insult, at least have correct spelling.

      1. Brent says:

So, which one is better looking?

Can someone explain to me why this is news? Is broadcast time worth so little that it can be frittered away with a story like this?

  7. Carol says:

Can someone explain to me why there are so many haters in this World? This is a nice story why can’t people just enjoy a nice story instead of being so rude! Congrats Gov Dayton. Nice pup!

    1. Melissa says:

Exactly. How can someone hate on a puppy story?

  8. red says:

coming from someone who has worked with dogs for 30 years, so yes the dog is cute but the gov getting a new pup is not news worthy at 5 am. I don’t care and it appears many others don’t either

Well then tell WCCO to stop talking about Pawlenty as well if you don’t want to hear about our Gov now, who cares about the old one? I don’t see any of you saying it is a “worthless” story when he is at one of his book signings yet those are just as “worthless” a story as this is. So should a news organization only cater to the stories that you want to hear? I don’t think that anyone made you click on this story and then read it, did they? If not maybe you should be angry with yourself for reading it even though it is not something you wanted to read.
Like a bunch of kids fighting over the crayons at school. Please go back to your coloring books and let the adults talk.
