Mpls. Men Robbed After Hiring Exotic Dancers Online

By Caroline Lowe, WCCO-TV

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A couple young Minneapolis men who hired two exotic dancers they found on Craigslist ended up getting robbed at gunpoint.

The guys, who are both in their mid-20s, spent an evening drinking and celebrating last weekend. They decided to cap off their evening with entertainment provided by exotic dancers. However, barely two minutes after the women showed up at an Uptown condo, two men armed with guns burst into the unit.

The victims told police the robbers forced them at gunpoint to stay in a bathroom while they raided the place, taking off with cell phones, wallets, bags and a watch.

“It is a terrible idea to invite total strangers into your house, especially after you have been drinking,” said Minneapolis Lt. Mike Fossum. “You are going to be set up for a future burglary or you are going to get a home-invasion that night.”

Almost four days later, investigators are still looking for the armed robbers.

“It is not the first time they have done a home-invasion and it definitely won’t be their last. So, we want to catch them before they can rob someone else,” said Fossum, who supervises the MPD Robbery Unit.

He said these types of robbery are very under-reported because most victims are too embarrassed to come forward or they have also been involved in illegal activities.

“About eight out of 10 persons don’t report the crime,” said Lt. Fossum who said about three or four times a year he gets similar reports.

He said the two victims in the Uptown robbery are lucky they didn’t get shot — or worse. He has this advice for men looking to be entertained by exotic dancers.

“If you want to go and see some strippers, go to the legitimate clubs that we have all over the metro area. At least it is safe, somewhat safe, in there, opposed to having somebody come to your home,” said Fossum.

One of the victims, who said he feared for his safety and did not want to be identified, said he hopes that by reporting the crime to police it will help prevent someone else from getting hurt.

He also said he hopes his experience will make other men “think before you go drinking. It skews your decision-making process.”

    Stupid is as stupid does.

  • Southernladyga

Once again me.. thinking with the little head!

  • Fact Johnson

The strippers were cops. Underbelly, seedy dark side. Coppers.

  • Matt in Chicago

Seriously?! You’re advocating that two guys who have been drinking should have kept a loaded weapon nearby just in case they were robbed while they were drunk?! Dude, I am a big supporter of the 2nd Amendment and that is NOT a good idea.

Alcohol and firearms don’t mix. Think it through.

    • mogar

I agree Matt. I am a 2nd amendment supporter also but being drunk and trying to use a firearm is a disaster in the making. They would have ended up shooting each other.

    • Frank K

Alcohol and firearms mix just fine when you are being robbed.

    • jeremy

Exactly…I’m with you. I’m ALL about the second amendment rights…but getting drunk with guns then ordering strippers off of craigslist to your house seems like a bad idea. Pick any two of those things together and you got a bad situation.

  • Mark Anthem

I for one welcome our new exotic overlords.

Another unsolved crime while cops busy themselves writing speeding tix, yet another violation of our rights. Add it to the list of gov’t violations of our right:
They violate the 1st Amendment by placing protesters in cages, banning books like “America Deceived II” and censoring the internet.
They violate the 2nd Amendment by confiscating guns.
They violate the 4th and 5th Amendment by molesting airline passengers.
They violate the entire Constitution by starting undeclared wars for foreign countries.
Impeach Obama and sweep out the Congress.

Hey Hank, Are you even capable of independent thought ?

      • DUDE

Hank, leaves a similar message on every story availible for comment. Spend about ten minutes looking at articles on Drudge Report and you will find Hank. Quite often you will an individual such as yourself who feels inclined to comment on his rant

      • Massimo Deportado

Hey Meek, will the left allow the meek to inherit the earth?

Or are you just another DNC/UnionThug/troll?

        Is that you Rahm? Carney?

    • aaa

@ Hank…now real slow, repeat after me’ I am an idiot”! See, I knew you would see the light. Now why don’t you move to Iran or somewhere….MORON!!!

  • Doubltap

@ricardo4max…..uh…..are you nuckin futz? DRUNK and ARMED????? Look guy, when “you get on the whiskey”, your 2nd amendment position melts down faster than ice cubes in the Texas sun!. BTW, I am a Kansan, a lifetime NRA member, and have held a CCW permit for over 4 years.

    • ricardo4max

Doubltap wrong! They are in their own home defending themselves against a PRE_MEDITATED ARMED ROBBERY! And nowhere yet have I found evidence that these men were drunk.

      • TR

    • Lance

Agreed. In Texas; the entertainment would have been interrupted with “blam, blam, blam, blam, blam, blam … reload… blam”…

Then the police would show up and pat the home owners on the back and investigate the women for conspiracy charges for theft as the bodies of the home invaders were removed.

      • Jimmy Folkvar

in michigan they don’t even have to be all the way inside your house, if they have malicious intent you shoot to kill and forget the questions, there are no questions, shoot to kill! sadly these guys like most marshmallow ass americans forgot how to use a gun, forgot how to stand up for themselves because they thought everything would always be all hunkey dorey.

  • Monica Sanchez

If these young men were armed, and ended up using firearms, they would end up in jail. The prosecutor would have a cakewalk given the fact that they had been drinking. The assailants could easily claim that the drunks drew first. The drunk’s testimony is discounted by virture of his drunkenness. I agree they have the right to keep and bear arms, and the right to self defense, but it would be a stupid move to get blotto and then get yourself into a gunfight. The answer is stay sober and don’t invite strangers into your home. It would help too if they could get their jollies some other way that doesn’t involve strippers. It seems that dudes who are calling over strippers are always getting in over their heads, recall the Duke Lacrosse players.

    • Paul Revere

Wow, what an embarrassing comment. How do so many americans lose all knowledge of and respect for their rights?

    • apo

The assailants could glaim the drunks drew first?

      On the assailants?

      In their own home? Really?

    • Sam

I’m not sure how you come to the conclusion that the young men would be in jail. Whether they drew first or not is completely irrelevant. They were victims of a home invasion. That alone gives them the right to shoot the perps. They don’t have to wait for them to draw first and whether or not they had been drinking is also completely irrelevant.

    • CNW

      Monica sweety!!!
So if you’ve had a glass or two of wine with dinner and suffer a home invasion you can’t shoot the home invader because you’re tipsy. So glad you are not in charge of anything,…….. especially anything to do with the law.

    • 2nd Amendment Guy

I do not think so – if someone commits a felony, busting into your room, firing first or second doesn’t matter. Defending yourself is a god given right, not something a prosecuter gives you. Not in this case, but most times you cannot pick when someone is going to bust into your house. Don’t come busting into my domain, whether i’ve had a drink or not – you better be faster on the draw than I am ’cause I will NOT hold back!

    • nevatu

      “The assailants could easily claim…”

I am not so sure the assailants would be in any condition to “claim” anything– let alone “easily”.

Bad guys always have guns because they don’t abide by laws that restrict honest citizens. Is there something wrong with the way that works ?

  • james boyd

It’s a shame the two fools were not shot to death. Nothing lost there. Then maybe the strippers would contact immediate diseases and die. More benefit to humanity. Then our “judges” could pardon the robbers and give them another chance for more theft. What a wonderful copuntry. May it last- for another 3 hours.

Should have had a gun handy. Blow those fools heads off. Next time I am liquered up and want to call some strippers I will be packing.

Jeez. Do you have an editor with some basic skills on staff or are you committed to hiring unsupervised “reporters” from the local junior high school newspaper?

Darn, you beat me to it!

First thing I noticed too. This IS the land that inspired Rose Nylund.

Censorship abounds here. Not surprised from a state that elects a Muslim and AL franken. More embarrassing then Massachusetts! LOL!!

    • Joeschmo

      Try “than.”

    • Melissa

Dont forget Jesse Ventura (for the record, I didin’t for for any of them. lol) In this case, I believe Its the male species, not the location.

  • Cheryl

Did Charlie Sheen’s goddesses do it?

  • Mike

So… what was the race of the robbers?

    • Most Likely

      Not mentioned; thus, black.

      • What?ABlackCriminal?

        Heh, too true.

  • vaag

SO–Lets see now. You let a couple of black ho’s into your place late at night. What do you think is going to happen?

  • Son of Liberty

Anyone that pointed a gun at me in my home would not leave the premises alive.

  • Weapon

I think it’s time to turn the tables in this trash. Set up a sting and lie in wait, armed of course. Make this kind of lawlessness too risky and it will stop. Maybe a new reality show?

  • blaine

wonder if these strippers were black

strippers ordered off craigslist probably means they were/are strippers doubling as prostitutes

  • Tim

If they placed the ad on the internet, they should be easy to catch.
Same happend in LA, guy placed an ad selling his iPod, instead he robbed the buyer when they met in person.
They caught him using his IP from the ad.

  • Massimo Deportado

This is news? This kind of thing has been going on in California ever since craigslist started….

Yes, stupid is as stupid does…..

    • MDWhite

…and New York…and Massachusetts…and Washington, DC. Don’t try to hold the moral high ground, sparky. It makes you look stupid.

  • Rey

Just re-hire the exotic dancer again via Craigslist, this time have the police ready. Problem solved!!!

  • Foo Bar

Keep a gun in the bathroom. … That’s the solution!

  • CommonSense

Ricardo4Max: You can tell you are not familiar with firearms. The situations resulting for suggestions like yours is reason the Anti-gun group has any power/justification at all.

The last thing this country needs is (self)medicated populous bearing arms anytime they feel threatened. Those rounds they would let off have to land someplace… and in this situation (in a condo), those landings would be disastrous.

I think I would have looked for who was at the door before opening it… just saying…
