MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Former Gophers quarterback Adam Weber hopes to go pro.

Weber and fullback Jon Hoese were among those who worked out for scouts from the NFL and the CFL Tuesday at Minnesota. About 30 players took part, with area small-college standouts like St. Thomas linebacker Tommy Becker also in the group.

The drills mirror what prospects do at the NFL’s scouting combine, with the 40-yard dash, bench press and high jump among them.

Vikings vice president for player personnel Rick Spielman says he liked the way Weber threw the ball.

Also Tuesday, the Vikings had representatives at Pro Day at both Arkansas and Auburn to watch quarterbacks Ryan Mallett and Cam Newton, respectively. Spielman said the team plans private workouts for top draft prospects, too.
