MN Man Wins AMA Supercross Race In Toronto
TORONTO (AP) -- Ryan Dungey raced to his first Monster Energy AMA Supercross victory of the year Saturday night, beating Chad Reed in front of 45,217 fans at Rogers Centre.
"It's been a tough one (this season) and it feels great to pull off," said Dungey, the Suzuki rider from Belle Plaine, Minn.
"Everyone goes through this at some point because it's a tough road. I got a great start tonight, which was huge. The track was really tough and you had to watch the mistakes."
Reed grabbed the top spot in the season standings with 236 points -- three more than Ryan Villopoto, who slipped back after a ninth-place finish.
"That's the positive from tonight," Reed said. "I have to just carry on. Ryan road a great race. He was faster in the whoops and turns. It took everything I had to pressure him into making a mistake."
Dungey is third with 216 points after 12 of 17 races.
Kawasaki's Dean Wilson, from Menifee, Calif., won the Supercross Lites race.
