MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A state trooper received minor injuries when his squad car was struck by a van. It happened around 8 p.m. Saturday evening on Interstate 94 near 42nd Avenue in north Minneapolis.

“A driver of a van plowed into the back end of his squad car pushing him into the car he had pulled over,” said Capt. Matt Langer, of the State Patrol.

NewsRadio 830 WCCO’s Bruce Hagevik Reports

Both the trooper and the driver of the van suffered injuries. The trooper was treated for bumps and bruises and the van driver is hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

“We’re now looking strongly at this potentially being a medical situation,” said Langer.

The van driver was unconscious for a time after the collision.

ya sure-based on that picture it looks like the back of the State Patrol car was totaled . .

    1. old fat out-of-shape white guy says:

They never said this was the car that got hit. Nice presumption though.

  2. Swamp Fox says:

Why are drivers in Minnesota drivers hitting emergency vehicles and/or State Trooper vehicles on the side of the road? It seems like one state trooper vehicle a week is being smashed into.

Slow down and yield to these vehicles, as the MN statutes state, or faced criminal charges for reckless driving. Someone is going to get killed with this reckless driving and when that happens it will be too late to say you’re sorry and take corrective action.

Save Lives! Protect Property! Slow Down! Yield to emergency or service vehicles!

Didn’t you get the point he was making? Typical american, only liking people that talk and act like you.

    1. lorenz says:

“Typical American”? Hey, traitor, there is no such thing as a typical american, but I think I get your drift and why don’t you go somewhere else and live, you self-righteous hypocrite?

  4. Dennybro says:

You should try driving in Pheonix!! You aren’t even safe in your own house!! Surprising how many cars will end up in somebodies house or swimming pool!! In just one week there were at least 5 cars in somebodies house!! It’s not just Mn. It’s everywhere!

    1. stupid assumptions says:

Police are suppose to off set the vehicle they pulled over so if they are at the window of the suspects car and a car does come close it will hit the squad and not him. So dont make assumptions if you dont now why something isnt done the way you think it should.

    3. PAUL says:

maybe you should have you license taken away for being an IDIOT smitty oldenberg

  6. savior says:

May be police should get their stupid butts over to the shoulder instead of clogging a driving lane. People shouldn’t have to adjust thier lives so some trooper can show of his authority and power. Have some freakin consideration for drivers

    1. harmon says:

      you sir/maam are a wacko

      1. PAUL says:

why don’t ALL you morons that think the Trooper was in the wrong ,why don’t you walk a mile in his shoes before you criticize how and why they are doing something a certain way. they are out there putting their LIFE on the line every day. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL TROOPERS AND POLICE !!

  7. Joy says:

I hope they start giving heavy penalties to those who hit our troopers. Would you call a serviceman or woman fighting for our country, protecting our rights and liberties, and protecting those that can’t protect themselves idiots and power tripping? Than please don’t call our local servicemen and women those things. Aside from getting no respect or honor from those they serve and protect, they have to worry about getting plowed down on the interstate because someone either doesn’t care or isn’t paying enough attention to see bright flashing lights on the side of the road. That part of I94 where the trooper got hit has four lanes going one way. Move over!!!!

  8. Thekhanvict says:

Read the whole article people. The last line states it was probably a medical condition… I.e the driver probably had a heart attack, stroke, or seizure. So it’s not really anyone fault.

  9. Howie says:

The driver was in the left lane and had a seizure because of the bright LED lights flashing on the patrol car!
