Meteorologists Surveying Possible Wis. Tornadoes

MERRILL, Wis. (AP) -- At least three people have been injured in storms that ripped through Wisconsin.

Merrill Fire Department Capt. Mike Drury says three people were taken to area hospitals there in central Wisconsin.

Drury says a 67-year-old man was trapped inside his basement but he couldn't talk about the details of his injuries. He says ambulances also transported two others but he didn't know the extent of their injuries.

He says emergency workers saw others with cuts and bruises.

The Wausau Daily Herald reports houses were destroyed, roofs were torn from buildings, trees were downed and thousands of residents lost power in the storm Sunday night. An industrial park was also badly damaged.

The National Weather Service was expected in Merrill and other parts of the state Monday to confirm whether tornadoes touched down.
