ST. CLOUD, Minn. (WCCO) – A Stearns County sheriff’s deputy was allegedly assaulted by an 18-year-old St. Augusta man after the deputy tried to impound the man’s ATV.
Authorities were summoned to the man’s home after an area resident called in a complaint that the man was driving the ATV on their private property. The caller told authorities this has been a recurring problem.
The deputy located the man driving the ATV and followed him to his residence. The deputy said the man ran inside and stood behind his mother while yelling obscenities at him.
When the deputy made an attempt to impound the ATV, the man, identified in the report as Ryan Timothy Kellen, came out and tried to obstruct him. When the deputy tried to place him under arrest, he ran, grabbed a patio chair and hit the deputy with it.
Kellen’s mother, 43-year-old Melody Marie Kellen, then allegedly tried to stop the deputy from arresting her son.
Both were arrested. Ryan Kellen is currently in custody pending charges of fourth-degree assault, obstructing the legal process, fleeing and illegal ATV operation. His mother was booked and released.
