Who built it? How big was it? How many people were on it? How big were these people?

I suspect that it was a simple case of a rotted out deck being used out of ignorance of the condition of the deck.

Forget layers, and lawsuits. Get well and get a life.

I saw a news report last week that suggested people check their decks. Due to the amount of snow this winter, the weight may have weakened decks.

The most common cause of this type of failure is an improper connection between the deck and the house wall. Are your bolts securely anchored to the cleat, and, better yet, is the cleat securely anchored to the house?
