MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Even after her passing, a longtime local librarian is continuing to serve her patrons.

A donation of $646,000 from the estate of Lillian G. Wallis was given to the Hennepin County Library on April 19.

Wallis worked for both the Hennepin County and Minneapolis public libraries before they merged, holding various positions until retiring in 1987.

She also worked at libraries in Olympia, Wash., Wisconsin and Germany.

Even in retirement, she traveled extensively and did volunteer work in a literacy program in Minneapolis and at the library.

Wallis died on Sept. 27, 2010.

Only an insane person would make any kind of connection like that. We are not like you bob.

      1. bob says:

I am perfectly sane. What gives you the right to question sanity after every posting by people assailing public workers?

        1. bobby says:

dont crack a nut lisa! yes, bob keep thinking you’re sane. we dont want him acting out!

          1. bob says:

@bobby. Malice on your part is unbecoming. To again accuse someone capable of behavior you do not know is pure horse poop. But of course you do have the right to say whatever you want however baseless. It is the way of the people on these boards.
Acting out? are you a psychiatric nurse or come accross your terms from the other direction?

No, this woman lived within her means and SAVED her money! I’m sure she gave to charities while she was alive, too! It’s all about budgeting your money, whatever income you make! Thank you, Llllian, for your donation!

  3. Kim says:

What a wonderful gift. And who’s to say she was paid too much in her time as a librarian? She may have just invested her money very well over the years.

  4. Amy says:

Or maybe she simply had life insurance. Who cares where her money came from or why she was able to donate. The fact is she did. And thanks be to God that the world is still blessed with people like her. May she rest in peace.
