Librarian Gives $646K To Hennepin County Library

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Even after her passing, a longtime local librarian is continuing to serve her patrons.

A donation of $646,000 from the estate of Lillian G. Wallis was given to the Hennepin County Library on April 19.

Wallis worked for both the Hennepin County and Minneapolis public libraries before they merged, holding various positions until retiring in 1987.

She also worked at libraries in Olympia, Wash., Wisconsin and Germany.

Even in retirement, she traveled extensively and did volunteer work in a literacy program in Minneapolis and at the library.

Wallis died on Sept. 27, 2010.
