Police Looking For Suspect In St. Paul Murder

By Rachel Slavik, WCCO-TV

ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- St. Paul Police are looking for the person who shot and killed a man Wednesday night in the Frogtown area of St. Paul.

Trent Crumble, 24, was gunned down in a parking lot in the 600 block of Dale Street.  He died at Regions Hospital.

The parking lot Crumble was shot in sits between two bars, Malina's Sports Bar and Coale's Bar and Grill.  Malina's was not open at the time, workers Coale's said the victim had not been inside before the shooting.

Adam St. George was in his home Wednesday night just a few feet from where Trent Crumble became the target of a gunman.

"I heard a thud, thud, thud," said St. George, who helped Crumble after the shooting. "I didn't see the actual incident.  I heard it from inside my room," said St. George.

When St. George heard the noises, he said he looked out his bedroom window and saw someone running through the parking lot.  Moments later he saw someone driving off down the road.

"I saw the car leaving and the man on the street," he said.

St. George tried to help Crumble, thinking at first he had been hit by a car.

"I didn't realize he'd been shot.  If I'd known that, I would have turned him over and put the right pressure," said St. George.

Green paint markings from the scene now cover the parking lot. Numbers mark where evidence may have been.

The shooting may have been captured on nearby surveillance video, detectives already have a lead and they're looking for two people who may have information.

"Investigators don't believe this is a random crime," said Officer John Keating of the St. Paul Police Department.

Friends have set up a memorial near the shooting site as police look for a killer.

As for the neighbor who hoped to save a life, St. George said he'll always wonder if he could have done anything differently.

"The sense of not being able to help is disheartening," said St. George.

The incident remains under investigation as officers continue to examine the crime scene and collect information. Anyone with any leads is asked to contact St. Paul Police at (651) 266-5650.
