In the days since the daring raid that took out OsamaBin Laden, the administration and the nation has much to be proud of. The daring, surgical raid was a triumph — a national victory — that happened 40 years after Jimmy Carter’s bungled attempt to rescue the Iran hostages with helicopters full of U.S. commandos not only failed, but resulted in the death of eight U.S. troops.

But the brilliance and daring of the raid has been marred by the bungled accounts the U.S. has given. How could such a disciplined, secret mission ended with gushing false accounts of Bin Laden firing at U.S. troops, using his wife as a human shield?

The lack of discipline in explaining what happened will only give our enemies fuel to misrepresent the attack that was justified by the death toll of 9/11.

The bungled and changing accounts only help Pakistan in their efforts to claim they knew nothing about Bin Laden’s hiding spot and that the U.S. was wrong in engaging such a mission on their soil.

Pakistan has received more than $10 billion in U.S. aide since 9/11 — a figure that has to come under scrutiny now.

It is inconceivable that someone in the powerful Pakistani military or intelligence community did not know Bin Laden was hiding in the out-sized compound just yards from a Pakistani military academy.

After nearly 10 years, the administration got public enemy number one — a mission that eluded his predecessor. It’s a pity that the easy part, explaining this triumph, was so poorly handled.

This is a nit picky article. Bin Laden has been killed, I could care less how.

I’m surprised the a journalist is surprised at the different accounts of what happened at bin Laden’s compound. You had to know there would be a lot of rumors flying and the fact the journalists reported them without confirmation is the real problem. Perhaps instead of trying to get the story as fast as possible, the media should try to get the story as accurate as possible.

I agree with MaryH. I think your problem here is with the journalists and not the administration.

I think you’re wrong about Pakistan as well. The changing accounts give more validity to the belief that Pakistan knew Bin Laden was there. Following 9/11, the U.S. gave Pakistan billions of dollars. Bin Laden was Pakistan’s cash cow. .

I blame the media more than nyone else. All the news orgs were hammering fir any tidbit of info 10 minutes after it was announced. 3 days later during a WH briefing they are asking the same questions 10 different ways. They wait for someone to make a slip.of tongue and it all over the news . It is sickening to watch needless to say boring. I applaud tbe President and his staff for a true Mission Accomplished. No Americans hurt and we can move on to the next disaster left on the plate from Bush..Sickening that we cant focus on the positive.outcome.

Also sickening that you can’t look at this situation and give credit to both the Obama administration and the Bush administration. Talk about not being able to focus on the positive outcome.

    Wendy Hullinget,

“Disaster left on the plate from Bush”? As if George W. Bush perpetrated the attack on 9/11? Are you serious, or just that out of touch with reality?

I think we should see the death picture, I heard he looks like Elvis. That just proves my theory about Elvis and the US government killed Elvis.

Esme…. good blog…something substancial rather than your most recent prior blogs with little spice appeal. BO did his job the way he was suppose to. I believe the WH gave out incorrect “facts” thus changing them. Its understandable given the circumstances and the immediate press attention needed. For once BO did his job as Pres. Now secure the border, stop CIA procusions, stop sueing AZ and hey………. Gitmo closure….whens that? BO has to get on that like he promised….Hope and Change all the way!!! Go BO.

Esme….. good blog…. mucho better then your most recent prior posts as this blog adds some spice. Pres BO did his job like he was hired. Amazing to find that since he’s buzy doing the proseute thing with CIA members and AZ over the border issues or launching Tomahawks in Lybia and going on vacation there after. I give BO credit……. odd for me to say…. Good Job done. The fish are happy also. As for inconsistant info releases…. my take is the WH got snippets of info which changed with needing to release Press info…. all quick etc… some mistakle were probably made…. but minor. Now onto Gitmo….. BO…. when are you saying you are closing that? Hope and Change Baby all the way!

  9. richard says:

The President did what he said he’d do. That’s all we need to know….end of story.

I think we are lucky this difficult & historic military operation was so successful. Great work US forces!
