Gay Marriage Ban Set For Minn. Senate Vote

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Minnesota senators are primed for a final vote on a ballot measure that would ban gay marriage in the state constitution.

The chamber's Rules and Administration Committee on Friday advanced the bill to the floor where action could be taken as soon as Monday. The 2011 session is due to adjourn on May 23.

If the GOP-controlled House and Senate approve identical language, voters would decide in 2012 whether to amend the state constitution to define marriage solely as union of one man and one woman. Minnesota governors don't have a say in determining questions on the statewide ballot.

The companion House bill sits one committee stop from a vote by the full chamber.
