Lino Lakes Officer Released From Hospital

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Lino Lakes officer who was accidentally shot last week is now out of the hospital.

Officer Chad Schirmers, 26, was hit by a bullet at a gun range in Coon Rapids last Thursday. Authorities investigating the incident said they believe the bullet bounced off something and struck Schirmers between his belt and safety vest.

But they also said because so many shots have been fired at the range, it's difficult to pinpoint where the bullet came from.

Schirmers was rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center by a police escort after the incident and is expected to make a full recovery. He is a three-year veteran of the Lino Lakes Police Department.
