Delta Jet Makes Emergency Landing In Green Bay

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- A Delta Air Lines Inc. jet landed safely in Green Bay after the crew smelled something unusual en route from Detroit to Minneapolis.

Passengers say Delta Flight 1476 was about half way through on Saturday when the captain told them the crew smelled smoke or another strange smell in the forward galley area.

Airport Manager Tom Miller says the plane landed shortly before 2:30 p.m., about nine minutes after the captain declared an emergency, enough time to get all emergency equipment in place before the DC-9 touched down. Eighty-one passengers and five crew members were aboard.

There were no injuries, and passengers were put on another plane to Minneapolis.

The cause of the odor was under investigation.
