Police: Man In Mendota Heights Standoff Kills Himself

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Mendota Heights officers said a neighborhood standoff ended after police discovered that the man shot himself.

Late Wednesday afternoon, police were called to the 2400 block of Lexington Avenue.

They said it was not the first time they had been called to the address.

Officers say a crying woman told them, "He went to get a gun," before she and the couple's child managed to get out of the home.

Police evacuated neighbors during the standoff.

It finally came to an end just before midnight when they sent a remote camera into the home and discovered the man's body.

Shortly after, officers went in and found that the man had died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

No one else was injured.
