T'Wolves President Talks Rubio Promotions

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It took two years but the Minnesota Timberwolves netted a big one.

On Friday morning, Timberwolves President Chris Wright spoke with WCCO Radio's Dave Lee about 20-year-old Spanish guard Ricky Rubio joining the team.

"He is at a press conference in Barcelona early this morning to say that he intends to come to Minnesota to play for us this coming season."

He said the Timberwolves have been communicating with Rubio since the basketball season in Spain ended Wednesday.

"We're anticipating that obviously things will happen very, very quickly now." said Wright.

As for possibly seeing Rubio in town the next week?

"It's very obvious now that Ricky's intended to come here and we'll get him to the market as soon as we possibly can."

Wright asks that fans be patient as they go through all of the detail of bringing Rubio here. In return, he said they'll release an upper level seat promotion through July 1.

"It'll allow people to buy two 'sort of' Rubio seats at a heavily discounted price in a very short window. So we have to do it very quickly. We've got to create some urgency simply because of the collective bargaining agreement that may or may not happen on July 1," he explained.

The Timberwolves selected Rubio with the number 5 pick in the 2009 NBA draft.
