Man Arrested In Cottage Grove, Hastings Home Burglaries

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A 33-year-old man is in custody, accused of burglarizing several occupied homes in Hastings and Cottage Grove.

Sean Michael Ancel was arrested Monday and could face first-degree burglary charges. He is currently booked at the Washington County Jail awaiting formal charges.

Police say Ancel is suspected of entering occupied homes through open or unlocked garage doors and then stealing wallets or purses from inside the residences. Ancel also allegedly used victims’ stolen credit cards, according to police.

Hastings Police Chief Paul Schnell said the burglaries allegedly occurred while the victims were sleeping in their homes.

Police would like to remind residents to close and lock overhead and side garage doors, even while home, and to report all suspicious activity.
