Man Gets 17 Years For Locking Girlfriend In Dog Kennel
ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to more than 17 years in prison after a jury ruled he showed no remorse for assaulting his girlfriend and locking her in a dog kennel.
Luke Brandon Scott was convicted in April of first-degree and second-degree assault, terroristic threats and false imprisonment. Jurors say beyond not showing remorse for his crimes, Scott also violated court orders to stay away from the victim and offered her a bribe not to testify at his trial.
According to a criminal complaint, Scott held his 21-year-old girlfriend captive last September in his St. Paul home on the 1200 block of Reaney Avenue East. Scott punched her in the face, hit her face with a bottle and at one point forced her into a dog kennel in his home, police said.
The woman called police and said Scott also choked her and threatened to cut her throat, while holding a knife. She was treated at Regions Hospital for several facial lacerations and a fractured tooth.
After the conviction, County Attorney John Choi said they would ask for a tough sentencing.
"These were unspeakably brutal and degrading crimes. Our office will ask for sentences that reflect the gravity of these offenses," he said.
