Wild Take D Jonas Brodin With 1st Round Draft Pick
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- The Minnesota Wild have selected defenseman Jonas Brodin with the 10th pick in the NHL draft.
When Commissioner Gary Bettman announced the Wild were up next Friday night, loud cheers and "Let's Go Wild!" chants came from the crowd.
The 17-year-old had four assists and 12 penalty minutes in 42 games in the Swedish Elite League last season for Farjestad. He had two goals in 14 playoff games. Brodin was also part of Sweden's national team that won a silver medal this year at the under-18 world championships.
Ranked third by the NHL's Central Scouting Service among European skaters, the 6-foot-1, 170-pound Brodin is considered a mature, stay-at-home defenseman who rarely gets flustered, a smooth skater and crisp passer who makes smart decisions with the puck.
