Gopher's Golf Director Resigns Amid Lawsuit

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- The golf director at the University of Minnesota accused of firing a coach because she's lesbian is resigning.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports John Harris is leaving effective July 1.

In a statement, Harris, who has held the job less than a year, said he wants to focus more on family and less on golf.

Gophers women's assistant golf coach Kathryn Brenny filed a sexual discrimination lawsuit against him last year. She accused Harris of preventing her from instructing and traveling with the team because she's lesbian.

Harris countered Brenny's poor job was the reason, insisting he did not know she was a lesbian until after she resigned.

Brenny's attorney, Donald Mark Jr., declined to comment Friday night. The lawsuit is scheduled for a December trial.
