ST. JAMES, Minn. (WCCO) – Police are investigating after a man was hit and killed by a train in St. James just after midnight.

The incident happened at 12:07 a.m. Saturday in the city of St. James.

Authorities said a 60-year-old man was traveling on foot and crossed over a set of railroad tracks in the area of the 10 block of 7th St. S., where there is no pedestrian crossing.

The man was then struck by an oncoming train traveling east at about 20 miles per hour. The victim was transported by ambulance to the Mayo St. James, where he was later pronounced dead.

The St. James Police Department has not released the victim’s identity at this time. The incident remains under investigation.
