Police: Girl, 2, Critical After Falling Out A Window

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 2-year-old girl fell from a second-floor window Saturday morning in Hinckley after she managed to loosen the window screen without her family noticing, police said.

The incident happened at 10:35 a.m. at the Grand Hinckley Inn. The girl fell from the second floor and onto the concrete floor of the indoor pool atrium, police said.

Police called the incident a tragic accident and said they don't think child neglect caused it to happen. The girl's parents have cooperated with the police investigation.

The girl was taken by ambulance to Essentia Health Services Hospital in Sandstone, Minn., before being flown to Regions Hospital. The girl was then taken to Gillette Children's Hospital, where she is currently being treated.

As of Saturday night, the girl was in critical condition.

The incident is under investigation as a non-vehicular accident and will be forwarded to Pine County Child Protection and the Pine County Attorney for review, police said.
