MORRIS, Minn. (AP) — The National Farmers Union is bringing its Renewable Energy Tour to the Morris campus of the University of Minnesota.

Farmers Union and other experts will speak Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Room 109, the “Cow Palace” classroom of the Imholte Building.

NFU President Roger Johnson says it’s an educational opportunity for family farmers and ranchers to see what others like them are doing to take advantage of increased demand for renewable energy, including the opportunities for additional income

Minnesota Farmers Union President Doug Peterson says the event will showcase everything the state has to offer in renewable energy. He says it will give people a chance to tell their renewable energy stories as well as learn from others

    They are panhandlers.
They want public money because the market doesn’t want what they are selling.
I hope the students realize they are going to hear a pack of lies.

  2. GN says:

Corn based ethanol, the great government boondogle ( amongst many. Let’s see, it consumes more energy than it produces which drives up the cost of energy to folks that are struggling, consumes massive quantities of water that is becoming scarce, is totally inefficient as a fuel source, dramatically drives up the cost of food to the consumer, receives 6.63 billion dollars per annum in subsidies directly, and let us not forget the corn subsidies that go into the ethanol, and of course let’s not forget the army of government employees that administer the program and the associated costs of these folks.

  3. Richard in Minneapolis says:

The first three comments are about ethanol, when in fact no specific technology is mentioned. “will showcase everything the state has to offer in renewable energy.”

So go negative right off the bat and not even contemplate other possible topics like renting space for wind power, installation of solar panels on barns and other buildings with large roof area, conversion of manure to methane, biomass, etc. etc. etc.

    1. Richard in Minneapolis says:

I actually went to the National Farmers Union website to look at the itinerary: Anaerobic digesters (manure to methane), solar, wind, …

There appears to be a group of people out there who live to complain.

      1. GN says:

They do given the massive amount of tax dollars wasted in subsidies and grants. They have a right to, it’s our money.

    2. GN says:

Richard, you need to research a bit more. You will find that the NFOs major claim to fame is extracting taxpayer dollars to fund snake oil projects.
Let them put up all the money themselves like companies that design, market, and sell most products and then give me a marking proposal as to why I should buy it at the consumer level. The term “union” is a major indicator.
