Minneapolis National Night Out Deadlines Approach

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Minneapolis is telling organizers of gatherings for National Night Out on Aug. 2 that important deadlines are coming up soon.

Organizers can register their events online. Neighborhoods that want to close their street can do it for free if they apply by Tuesday, July 19. From July 20- 28, there's a $100 fee. Permission is required from 75 percent of the affected neighbors. Signatures aren't required, but names and addresses are.

Organizers who want a police officer to visit can request one when they register, though demand is high and the city can't promise one will be available.

Each organizer receives a pass for Nickelodeon Universe at the Mall of America. Groups that register by July 19 will be entered into a drawing for door prizes donated by Minneapolis businesses.
