MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – When you think of a bad cold, most think of it happening during the winter. But a summer cold may actually be worse for you to deal with.

Doctors say cold and flu viruses that make people sick in the winter often combine with other warm weather viruses in the summer, including a nasty bug called the “enterovirus.”

They say that combo can cause stomach problems and a cough that just won’t go away. It can last longer and it’s more likely to come back.

“It really taxes the immune system more. They’re more run down and I think that’s what’s making it last longer,” said Dr. Lisa Liberatore with the Lexington Wellness Center.

Air conditioning and recycled air on planes can also spread virus. Doctors say keep washing your hands, get plenty of sleep and stay hydrated to try to avoid getting sick.
