AUSTIN, Minn. (AP) — The Dexter parents who pleaded guilty to charges they chained their 5-year-old son to his crib have been sentenced to one year in jail and three years supervised probation.

The Austin Daily Herald reports Judge Donald Rysavy sentenced 33-year-old Brian Miller and 26-year-old Charity Miller on Friday morning.

The Millers were sentenced on one count each of gross misdemeanor false imprisonment and one count each of malicious punishment.

The charges alleged the Millers chained their 5-year-old to his crib from bedtime until morning every night. The boy weighed less than 30 pounds when he and his brother were placed with a foster family in April.

After they were sentenced, Brian Miller said he was sorry. Charity Miller also apologized and said she wanted a second chance to be a good mother.

    1. Roxanne Green says:

i agree, but the that would be to good for them, they should be chained out side to a bed, in the heat and cold to see how they like it. i

  2. Sick people want to be mothers says:

    1. Hugh Jorgan says:

    2. DD says:

I was trying to think of something really good to say about these freaks, but your comment is the best. I’d only add that a daily beating isn’t out of reach as well. The only thing they are sorry about is they got caught!!! Please don’t give her a second chance.

Is it just me or does it seem like a new trend for this kind of cr ap??? I don’t get people. A chance to be a good mother, she says? So should we risk their safety to see if she can? I don’t think her kids she be used a guinea pigs, but I’m sure once they are released they probably will get them back. I just hope that they can be better parents when they do.

    1. Karen says:

Ugh I mean I don’t think her kids should be used as guinea pigs…

    2. paul says:

whats sad is you most likely are correct they will probley get them back it will be under close supervision at first till the court is satisified that they are going to do better .
Whats really sad is that the courts are tougher on animal abusers than a child abuser I know of a couple that abused animals and the court will not ever let them have a pet !
This so called mother can still have another kid .

      1. tonya says:

And just think, she was a nurse. That is also a scary thought.

  4. Mary says:

Why only one year! How about 30yrs for the child weighing 30 lbs!

    1. em0886 says:

I completely agree!! This article made me sick…my son is two and weighs 34 pounds..I can’t imagine a five year old weighing less than that!! Why would they even think it’s a good idea to chain him to the bed at night, read him a book, let him watch a video and then turn the lights off at a certain time…explain it’s time to go to bed and that you will see him in the morning and you can play!!! There is a special place in hell for these two…at least I am really hoping!

  5. ez says:

cco is lame. The headline says they were charged. But according to the story they were convicted and sentenced, not charged. Who is the world is approving these stories???

  6. Jack Mehoff says:

She’s got that fat @$$, pouty, zit/crack face look that so many of us would love to backhand. Hope you two have a good ol’ time getting your @$$e$ kicked in prison over the next 1+ years.

    1. Fureal says:

She took a nose dive from the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.

  7. we says:

I say chain them up and light them up .Watch them burn like human candles!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Terry says:

To the State of Mn do the right thing and please sterlize these two while they are in prison. they will only get out and reproduce again…………..

  9. family values says:

There should be a Constitutional amendment to stop these heteros from ruining children. It’s bad enough they try to recruit them into that despicable lifestyle, but chaining is above and beyond the call.

  10. Sarah in Oustate Mn says:

I live somewhat near this couple and know people that know them. From the rumors I’ve heard, the older boy wants nothing to do with his parents and doesn’t even want visitation with them. They don’t deserve their children. They chained their children up, refused them food and the use of the toilets. Cruel, just cruel. I don’t understand the mentality of this kind of cruelty.
