Dow Chemical, 3M Hire New Vice President

NEW YORK (AP) -- The Dow Chemical Company said Monday that it has appointed a new chief of its Performance Products and Performance Systems Division.

Joe Harlan will join the company as president of the division. He'll also serve as an executive vice president for Dow Chemical, which is based in Midland, Mich.

Harlan, who previously served as an executive vice president for the consumer and office business at 3M Co., will begin on Sept. 1 for Dow Chemical.

Meanwhile, 3M said it will replace Harlan with Michael Vale, who previously served as the St. Paul, Minn.-based company's managing director in Brazil.

Dow Chemical shares rose 90 cents, or 2.6 percent, to $35.77 in morning trading. 3M shares rose 36 cents to $87.50.
