ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Gov. Mark Dayton is continuing the tradition of the Minnesota Governor’s Deer Hunting Opener started by his predecessor, Tim Pawlenty.

Dayton said Monday the 2011 Governor’s Deer Opener will be held Nov. 4-5 in Biwabik, in northeastern Minnesota.

Pawlenty began the annual event in 2003 as a way to showcase Minnesota’s tradition of deer hunting. The Governor’s Deer Opener is held at a different location around the state each year. This is the first time it will be held in Biwabik, on Minnesota’s Iron Range.

Minnesota has nearly a half-million deer hunters. The event is coordinated by the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association in cooperation with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and Explore Minnesota Tourism.

OMG, this should be funny. Gov. Dayton trying to slay a deer. Somebody better give him a machine gun with a laser sight, or he will have no chance on even bagging a doe.

I hope the Governor shoots a big fat googly-eyed deer with a trust fund named Mark the Deer.
