WAHPETON, N.D. (AP) — Hundreds of people gathered to formally send off about 160 North Dakota National Guard soldiers who are bound for a year of duty in the Middle East.
The Sunday ceremony for members of the 188th Engineer Company was held on the State College of Science campus in Wahpeton. Gov. Jack Dalrymple, congressional leaders, state Guard commander David Sprynczynatyk and others spoke at the event.
The soldiers are from 68 communities across North Dakota and into Minnesota. They will get final training at Fort Bliss, Texas, before heading overseas to Kuwait.
