Police: Elderly Chaska Man Extorted For $8,400

CHASKA, Minn. (WCCO) — Police in Chaska are investigating after an elderly man was apparently swindled out of $8,400 Monday.

According to the police department, two men arrived at the victim’s residence sometime around noon and offered to paint a large shed on the property.

They agreed on a price of $840 for the job, but once the men had completed the task, they told the man he owed them $8,400.

They drove the man to the bank and waited outside while he withdrew the amount and gave it to them, police said.

Police said the two suspects were both white males standing roughly 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weight about 150 pounds each.

They were seen driving a white Chevrolet pick-up truck with a possible dent on the passenger side.

Anyone with information is asked to call 952-448-4200.

Why did the old man agree to pay 8400 when told the price would be 840 Something’s missing here. If the old man was threatened, why didn’t he tell the bank teller to call the cops? If I agreed to pay 840 and some guy told me the price was 8400 instead, I would have told him to get lost and I’m in my eighties, by the way.

$8400 in a cash withdrawal to an elderly person should have raised red flags to an experienced, alert, well trained bank teller.

How sad that they did this to this elderly man…I think he must have been threatened as well because I am sure he had to have questioned the amount beings that it was quite the difference….who schemes up something like this anyways…how about getting a job and working for the money legitimately!!

When Bruce & I had our lovely home painted pink 2 summers ago,we solicited bids from painting contractors..We then ignored the bids & just went with the company that employed the cutest guys..Each day as they painted,I served them lunches of finger sandwiches, salads & home baked scones and pastries..The house looks fabulous..They also hung my Rainbow Flag when finished.
