MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating after a Mankato police officer fatally shot a man.
Officer Timothy Spellacy responded to a call of a suicidal man at a home in Mankato around 9:30 p.m. Thursday. When Spellacy arrived, he was met outside the home by an armed man.
The BCA says the suspect refused to drop his weapon and instead pointed it at the officer. Spellacy fired once, striking the suspect who died on the way to a hospital.
The Ramsey County medical examiner identifies the suspect as 31-year-old Jonathan Hess of Mankato.
Spellacy is a 10.5-year veteran of the Mankato Department of Public Safety. He is on standard paid administrative leave.

Suicide by cop, hell of a deal! The guy didnt have the guts to pull the trigger on his own gun, now a cop gets to live with the guilt feelings of taking anothers life. Its one thing when it wauranted, quite another when one is forced to protect themselves. Hope the cop is able to deal with his feelings in a possitive way..
