Free Music, Movies Return To Raspberry Island

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Free outdoor music and movies are returning to St. Paul's Raspberry Island next month after a nearly five-year break.

The island will feature live music the first three Fridays in September, followed by "Spider-Man" movies projected onto a giant inflatable movie screen.

The Don King Blues Band kicks off the series Sept. 2, followed by Molly Maher and Her Disbelievers on Sept. 9 and the Everett Smithson Band on Sept. 16. The music starts at 7 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs, picnics and bug spray.

Raspberry Island was renovated in 2008 and is located on a 2.2-acre island in the Mississippi River below the Wabasha Street Bridge.

The music and movies are part of the Comcast Music and Movies in the Park series.
