Minnesota Couple Has Wedding Shower At The Fair

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. (WCCO) -- Just when you think you've seen it all at the Minnesota State Fair, there's something completely different.

How about a state fair wedding shower? With gifts for the lucky couple that could only be found from the grandstand to machinery hill. It's not the kind of bridal registry most couples sign up for, but certainly among the most unique.

"We're all to buy gifts directly from the Fair, that's the only thing allowed," said Carla Lagerstedt of Spicer.

That's what brought the Lagerstedts to the Spam booth: Loading up on cup holders and a Spam bank.

For hours, the Lagerstedts walked the State Fair avenues, selecting wedding gifts with just the right touch.

"Two pillowcases, one with a John Deere and one with the Minnesota Vikings," Said Sarah Lagerstedt of Minneapolis.

The lucky couple, Elizabeth Roebke and Erik Sillerud of Billings, Montana, received special gifts when they arrived: Baseball caps.

Hers was white, embroidered with the word "Bride." His was black "which is appropriate," said Erik.

They call themselves homesick Minnesotans living in Montana, planning a Saturday Minnesota-themed wedding scheduled around the Minnesota Gopher football game.

"We want a Minnesota wedding," said bride Elizabeth. "So we come to the State Fair to be married in the morning. Hang out at my parents lake home in the afternoon."

By late afternoon Wednesday, it was party time. On their very special day, Elizabeth and Erik's gift list included a State Fair garden ornament, a cutting board shaped like a pig and a yardstick.

A great day at the Fair, they said.
