MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – South Dakota native Brock Lesnar is officially making his return to mixed martial arts fighting, UFC President Dana White confirmed on Tuesday.

Lesnar, an NCAA champion wrestler at the University of Minnesota who also flirted with an NFL career, is scheduled to face Alistair Overeem at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Dec. 30.

Lesnar is returning to action for the first time since last October. He was scheduled to fight Junior Dos Santos in June, but had to pull out of the fight because of an ongoing battle with diverticulitis. He had surgery at the Mayo Clinic, which included having nearly a foot of his intestines removed.
